Leading a Transformation: Unifying Legacy News Brands for the Modern Media Landscape
As traditional news brands face fierce competition from emerging information sources, News Corp Australia partnered with Torii to lead a transformative design initiative. Based in Sydney, we were engaged to place design talent that would lead an experience design overhaul, unifying and optimising experiences across News Corp's portfolio of brands.
What We Delivered
- Design Sprints to Break Down Silos
Our UX Lead introduced Google Ventures-style Design Sprints, breaking down silos within teams and rapidly generating new concepts and design patterns. These ideas were tested and iterated with real users, leading to improved sign-up and pricing models, and identifying new bundling opportunities for News Corp’s digital offerings. - Internal User Experience Optimisation
We shifted focus to enhancing internal tools for editorial teams. The result: a bespoke suite of tools for Editors, designed to maximise productivity and streamline workflows, ensuring efficiency and collaboration across departments. - Design System Uplift
In 2024, our Senior Product Designer led a Design System uplift, using an innovative approach to ensure seamless reskinning across dozens of brands. With a combined audience of 18 million users, this initiative laid the foundation for a unified user experience across News Corp’s diverse media properties.
Overhauling the Subscriber Experience
In 2025, two of our Senior Designers took the lead in overhauling the subscriber experience, from initial ideation through to delivery. The first release of this new experience will be launched to customers in mid-2025, bringing a more intuitive and personalised journey to subscribers.
